In the aftermath of the tragic terror strike at Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, India launched a massive retaliatory attack on May 7 — designated as Operation Sindoor. During this operation, the Indian Defence Forces conducted precise attacks on nine terrorist camps across Pakistan and PoK. The strikes were precise, swift, and targeted.
In spite of the ceasefire being agreed upon between the two nations, tensions soon reached a fast-forward after the Pahalgam incident. India’s action in Operation Sindoor has invited key questions: What did India gain? Going by ANI reports, the operation was a success on three strategic fronts — military, political, and psychological.
1. Military Objective Served
The number one priority for India was to counter the terrorism threat posed by terrorists who were infiltrating into Kashmir and targeting security personnel. The counter strikes destroyed several camps that were alleged to be the launch pads of cross-border terror. Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Muzaffarabad targets were targeted — an open hit to Pakistan-based terror infrastructure.
2. Political Objective Reinforced
India also conveyed a robust diplomatic message. The government has consistently equated the Indus Waters Treaty with cross-border terrorism. Following on from persistent terror attacks, India has placed the treaty under strategic scrutiny, making it explicitly clear that cooperation in water sharing cannot go hand in hand with prolonged hostility and bloodshed.
3. Psychological Victory
Aside from physical targets, India also sought to instill fear into the minds of those who fund and harbor terrorism. The message was clear, according to sources: “If you come to our land and attack, we will cross over and hit back harder.” The daring act put an end to any delusion of security terror masterminds might have. It also had Pakistan cornered — militarily shaken and diplomatically alone.
PM Modi’s Warning Fulfilled
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had threatened in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack that perpetrators would be “mixed into the soil.” Operation Sindoor did precisely that. Terror camps were brought down, and a strong precedent was established.
Pakistan, sources say, soon realized the price of escalation. It was outnumbered at all levels — militarily, strategically, and psychologically. India’s message is clear and loud: There is no safe haven for those who hurt us — not even on the other side of the border.
