The Indian government has committed $50 million in economic aid to the Maldives, a step taken amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. The commitment came on the heels of a string of military actions, including the destruction by India of nine terror camps in Pakistan following a terror attack in Pahalgam. Subsequently, Pakistan made various attempts at strikes on Indian cities, but they failed. Tensions were high for a few days, but a ceasefire was reached on Saturday, May 9, 2025. In spite of strained relations with Pakistan, India has shown its support to the Maldives, a Muslim country that has close relations with Pakistan.
