Jammu, May 11, 2025 — Hostilities along the Line of Control (LoC) are on the boil again after a suspected security lapse near the Nagrota Army camp in Jammu set alarm bells ringing late on Saturday night. The incident has followed barely days after India and Pakistan announced a fragile ceasefire agreement and has raised serious doubts over the intentions of Pakistan and the efficacy of the truce.
A soldier on guard duty at strategically located Nagrota military complex spotted suspicious activity along the outer boundary of the camp around 10:30 p.m., defence officials stated. Acting fast, the guard fired a few warning shots in the air in accordance with routine operating procedure as a deterrent for possible infiltrators.
The Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and local units undertook an instant search and combing operation. Although there were no intruders found within the property, preliminary reports indicate that the activity was a suspected reconnaissance move — possibly a probe by cross-border operatives assessing security deployments in light of Operation Sindoor, India’s latest military action to counter terrorist attempts.
High-level military sources assured the media that security measures are still at the highest level of alert. “Considering the mood in the country after the ceasefire and Operation Sindoor, we are not leaving anything to chance. Our troops are on their guard at all sensitive installations,” said a top military official.
The Nagrota base, near the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, has been attacked before, like the fatal 2016 attack by militants based in Pakistan. That history has spawned more alertness and regular re-evaluation of security inside and around the complex.
In the meantime, political responses have begun flooding in. Opposition leaders have questioned the timing and genuineness of Pakistan’s commitment to the ceasefire, particularly in the context of recent drone activity and established attempts at infiltration along the LoC.
This so-called ceasefire is already being breached by covert means,” Congress MP Manish Tewari, who called for an official statement from the Defence Ministry, asserted. “The government needs to clear if our troops are being sufficiently supported to tackle the changing threat.
In reply to the incident, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reaffirmed India’s stance that peace should not be at the expense of national security. “We are committed to dialogue and de-escalation, but our troops have been categorically told to respond with strength to any aggression or deception,” he stated.
As part of its post-ceasefire policy, India had begun Operation Sindoor, a specific military operation aimed at neutralizing terrorist launchpads along the border. The operation was viewed as a stern message to Pakistan, and Saturday’s encounter near Nagrota indicates that danger is very much far from over.
With the valley remaining on high alert and ceasefire violations already under the scanner, this fresh breach is a reminder of the tenuous peace in the region and the ongoing necessity for caution.
Security agencies remain on their toes, and more updates are anticipated after a thorough assessment by Army officials and intelligence agencies.
