After over six decades of electrifying shows and establishing the sonic sound of rock and roll, The Who has finally announced their last North American tour. Entitled The Song Is Over, the farewell tour will visit major cities throughout the United States and Canada, bringing an end to an era for one of the most iconic bands in music history.
The May 8 announcement of the tour was followed by the band labeling it the “grand finale” of their legendary career. One of the greatest live acts ever, with their classic songs such as My Generation, Baba O’Riley, and Won’t Get Fooled Again, and their trailblazing endeavors in rock opera, The Who’s farewell to the stage is both historic and poignant.
A Personal Goodbye
Frontman Roger Daltrey was nostalgic about the history of the band and about touring in America.
“Back in the ’60s, making it in the U.S. was the ultimate dream,” Daltrey shared. “The connection we’ve had with American audiences has been powerful and lasting. It’s hard to say goodbye to something that’s been such a massive part of my life, but this tour is our way of thanking the fans who’ve supported us all these years.”
Guitar player Pete Townshend also honored the band’s heritage and their deceased band members, drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle.
“Roger and I are thrilled to be continuing the work of Keith and John,” Townshend explained. “This ride hasn’t always been pleasant, but it’s been very fulfilling. It’s time to wrap it up with the same passion we began.”

Final Bow
While this isn’t the first time The Who has threatened to retire—previous farewell tours have been in 1982, 2015, and most recently in 2022—this time it’s not in doubt: The Song Is Over is their final one.
As one of the longest-lived rock acts, The Who is leaving behind a legacy of musical virtuosity, rebellion, and innovation. Their last tour isn’t simply a series of concerts—it’s a celebration of all they’ve contributed to music, and a tender goodbye to generations of fans.
