Following Operation Sindoor, India has condemned Pakistan for holding state funerals for those identified as terrorists who were killed in the operation. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was deeply concerned about Pakistan’s move, perceiving it as a glorification of terrorism and a violation of international norms.
India initiated Operation Sindoor as a response to a fatal terrorist strike in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 civilians, including tourists. The operation was aimed at nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), which India had recognized as terrorist infrastructure belonging to organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

After the operation, photos surfaced of Pakistani military personnel holding funerals of the dead from the strikes, coffins covered in national flags and state honors being given. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri spoke to the media, saying, “It is strange that the funerals of civilians are conducted with the coffins draped in Pakistani flags and state honors being given.”

India’s Ministry of External Affairs went on to condemn Pakistan’s actions, stating that rewarding individuals who are involved in terrorism goes against the fight against extremist activities and constitutes a threat to regional stability. The MEA stated that the actions by Pakistan not only glorify terrorism but also convey a dangerous signal that may inspire terrorist networks.
Following the rising tensions, global leaders have urged restraint and dialogue between the two countries. The United Nations and nations such as the United States, United Kingdom, China, and Turkey have been concerned about the developments and have urged both parties to seek diplomatic efforts to reduce the conflict.
With the situation still volatile, India has also taken further steps, such as ordering OTT platforms to take down Pakistani-origin content, on grounds of national security. The Indian government remains vigilant and has reaffirmed its determination to protect its citizens and ensure regional peace.
